Karol Wojtyła's last drama, dated 1964 and subtitled 'a mystery'. It is the least conventional of his plays: there is very little external action, and much of the text is extended monologue close to poetic prose. It is in three parts, 'Adam', 'The Experience of the Child' and 'The Mother', and reflects on growing into fatherhood, on the relation of a man to God and to others, and on fatherhood in God; its line 'one returns to the father through the child' is often quoted. Commentators, among them Józef Tischner, have read the relations of its characters as a reflection of the relations in the Trinity, and it anticipates the analysis of the person and the act in his philosophy of 1969. It has been staged a few times in Poland, including a Warsaw production of 1983 shown on television in 1987. An English translation is known as Radiation of Fatherhood.
