A posthumous collection of Merton's essays and meditations, edited by Naomi Burton Stone and Patrick Hart and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 1979 (232 pages in the Harcourt Brace paperback of 1985). The pieces, mostly from his last years, centre on the need for love in learning to live, among them the essays "Love and Need" and "Learning to Live".
