The third volume of Oden's Systematic Theology, published by HarperSanFrancisco in 1992, after The Living God (1987) and The Word of Life (1989). The set is arranged in a Trinitarian pattern, each volume centred on one person of the Godhead; this one, of some 550 pages, examines, in the publisher's words, the presence of the Holy Spirit in history and the Spirit's work in the lives and communities of believers. Like the other volumes it aims to set out the teaching on which East and West, Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox, have generally agreed, built from Scripture and the early church writers. The three volumes were later revised into the one-volume Classic Christianity (2009).
