Bruce's memoir, published by Pickering & Inglis in 1980 with the subtitle Remembrance of Things Past, and in a revised edition by Marshall Pickering in 1993. It recalls his upbringing in Elgin as the son of a Brethren evangelist, his study of classics at Aberdeen, Cambridge and Vienna, his teaching at Edinburgh, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester, and the people and causes of his working life.
