Predestination, God's Foreknowledge, and Future Contingents
For For students of medieval philosophy and of the foreknowledge and freedom debate who want Ockham's treatise in English; not for a general reader.
An English translation of William of Ockham's treatise on predestination, divine foreknowledge and future contingents, made by Marilyn McCord Adams and Norman Kretzmann and first published by Appleton-Century-Crofts in 1969 with an introduction, notes and bibliographies. Hackett published a second edition in 1983 with a new introduction by Adams, notes and appendices. The treatise takes up the medieval form of the question whether God's knowledge of what will happen is compatible with its being contingent and with human freedom. It is her first book, published two years after her Cornell dissertation on God's foreknowledge and free will in Boethius and Ockham, and it stands at the start of the work on Ockham that culminated in her two-volume William Ockham (1987).
