An anthology, edited and introduced by Oden and published by Princeton University Press in 1978, gathering the parables and short stories scattered through Søren Kierkegaard's writings. Princeton has kept it in print and reissued it in 2021. Oden later edited a companion volume, The Humor of Kierkegaard: An Anthology (2004), which a First Things review called a sequel to this "deservedly popular" collection. The book is Oden's selection and arrangement of passages from Kierkegaard in translation, not an argument of his own.
