Published by Crossway in 1985, the year after Schaeffer's death, with the subtitle Spiritual Reality in the Personal Christian Life (264 pages). The editor, Lane T. Dennis of Crossway, selected the letters from some nineteen thousand that Schaeffer wrote to the people who sought his counsel. They are arranged in three groups around the theme of spiritual reality: its awakening, its place in daily life, and its place in marriage, the family and sexual relations, the last section running to about eighty pages. The letters show the personal and pastoral side of his work at L'Abri, his insight on relationships and sin, and the care he gave to other people's concerns. The book received a Gold Medallion award. It is a selection by the editor rather than a book Schaeffer prepared himself, but it prints his own words not found in his other books.
