A short book by Thomas Keating, M. Basil Pennington and Thomas E. Clarke, published by St. Bede's Publications in 1978 (68 pages). Keating and Pennington were Trappist monks of St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, two of the three monks who shaped the method that became known as centering prayer, and the book is one of the earliest published presentations of it. Later editions carry the subtitle The Beginning of Centering Prayer (SkyLight Paths, 2002). It belongs to the years before Open Mind, Open Heart (1986), the book in which Keating set out the method at length.
