Success and the Christian: The Cost of Spiritual Maturity collects sermons Tozer preached at the Southside Alliance Church in Chicago, compiled by Harry Verploegh and published by Christian Publications in 1994. Tozer sets authentic spiritual success against much contemporary thinking: it is first to magnify God, then to mortify the flesh, and lastly to simplify one's life. He laments an age that magnifies slick personalities and so minimizes God.
