Spiritual Direction: Wisdom for the Long Walk of Faith (HarperOne, 2006) was published posthumously by Henri Nouwen with Michael J. Christensen and Rebecca J. Laird, who drew on his unpublished writings and on the course on spiritual direction he taught. Nouwen never wrote his own book on the subject, and this volume gathers his thought on it: the spiritual life as a long journey of faith and transformation, sustained by accountability, community and relationships of guidance. It is organized by theme and includes stories, readings, questions for reflection and suggestions for journaling, for use by individuals or groups. It is the first of three such volumes, followed by Spiritual Formation (2010) and Discernment (2013).
