Independent intensities, 0–5 — what the work is made of, not how good it is.
Published posthumously by Crossway in Wheaton in 1998 with the subtitle The Truth of Romans 1–8 (240 pages). It is an exposition of the first eight chapters of Paul's letter to the Romans, the part of the letter that sets out the doctrines of sin, justification, union with Christ and life in the Spirit; the publisher presents it as Schaeffer's commentary on the foundational doctrines of the faith, the passage that shaped Augustine, Luther and Wesley. The book carries an introduction by Udo W. Middelmann, president and co-founder of the Francis A. Schaeffer Foundation. Its title echoes the phrase at the centre of True Spirituality, the finished work of Christ applied to the Christian's life. It appeared too late for The Complete Works and stands apart from them.
