Exchanged Library

Two thousand years of Christian writers, in one place.

Try: prayer · martyrdom · the Trinity · Augustine · free to read today

Who were these people, when did they live, what did they write, and where can I read it? Those four questions are what this site answers, for the whole Christian tradition: Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and beyond, ancient and modern, East and West.

Every author has a page, and every work a page of its own, with editions you can read, hear or buy. Many of the works are free to read, and a growing number of public-domain classics are hosted here, set for comfortable reading. There is no account and no sign-in.

Three tools take you in: search by subject, walk the timeline, or follow the lines of influence from one writer to the next.

Research Tool #1

SEARCH THE LIBRARY

Find works by what they are about, not only by name. Search every title, description and author for a subject, then narrow the results by era, tradition, language, difficulty, or what you can read free today.

Research Tool #2

INTERACTIVE TIMELINE

Two thousand years of writers on one line. See who lived and wrote alongside whom, and follow a tradition across the centuries. Click an author to see everything they wrote, or a work to see where you can read, hear or buy it. Build a reading list as you go; it stays in your browser, ready to copy, download or share.

Research Tool #3

INFLUENCE MAP

See who shaped whom. Choose a writer to trace the authors who influenced them and those they influenced in turn, or step back to see the whole web of connections across the centuries. Every link is a judgment confirmed by a person, with the work it runs through.
